"What would an Asian School of Public Policy look like?" This was the question
on the minds of the organisers of the inaugural "Public Policy in Asia" PhD
conference at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of
Singapore. Driven by the desire to contribute to a field dominated for too long
by 'Western' perspectives, this conference aims to be an Asian 'Minnowbrook',
pushing the empirical and disciplinary frontiers of public policy research and
practice. By selecting the most promising doctoral candidates working on Asian
issues worldwide, we hope, together with you, to make a significant theoretical
and empirical contribution to the field of public policy, and to discuss ways in
which we, as young academics, can contribute to solving the policy problems
faced by Asian countries.
